QoS can regulate how different traffic is handled during rush hour. It is not a magic speed setting that increases the physical capacity of your internet package.

Basic approach

DSCP is the traffic classification field in the IP header. The effectiveness of beacons depends on network devices recognizing them and applying policy. Just because an application flags its packet does not guarantee that the entire Internet path will maintain the same priority.

Application steps

  1. Measure which application and under what density condition the problem occurs.
  2. Examine the classification, queue, and trust limit policy together in the managed network.
  3. Compare the latency of the priority application and the availability of other traffic after the change.

Practical example

If the video call is corrupted during upload, proper queue management and classification can help. However, marking all traffic as the highest priority removes the difference; does not provide the expected benefit.

Interpret the result correctly

QoS settings are hardware and network design specific. Back up the current configuration rather than copying values from another router's display. If there is no measurement, you cannot verify improvement; Use the same load scenario before and after.
